Apps Like HQ Trivia Where You Can Win REAL Money and Prizes

Apprs Like HQ Trivia

If you’ve like me, you’ve played HQ Trivia over and over without ever winning anything. Perhaps you’ve even come close but still had no luck.

Fortunately there are some other trivia apps out there to try that will award you REAL cash and prizes. Some of these apps are still trying to catch on so there’s less competition, while others might broadcast at times that fit better into your schedule.

Here I’ve compiled a list of  seven lucky apps like HQ Trivia.

Cash Show

This app offers its trivia game three times per day at 3:30PM, 8:00PM, and 9:30PM EST and five times on the weekends at the same times plus 1:30PM and 6:30PM EST. The actual show features a brief introduction from the host, but is a little less personality-driven than HQ Trivia- the host is basically just there to read the questions.

The payment structure on this app is a bit different as well. Each game features 12 questions that much be answered in 10 seconds each, but once you reach the “prize questions” (which typically start around question #5) they actually award a cash prize on a per question basis. Prizes are split with all the players that get the prize questions correct, although if there’s too many winners the prize gets passed to the next question.

From my experience the questions on this app were (in some cases) much easier than HQ Trivia but subsequently there also happened to be more winners. Thus there are smaller earnings per player. You can get “extra lives” by inviting friends and the ability to eliminate a wrong answer by getting “wrong gones” when you link to Facebook.

The Q

This app seems like the dollar store version of HQ Trivia. The production values are lower, the prizes are smaller, and the host seems like some random guy they plucked off the street (although recently they’ve added an extra host, Poppy). You’ll still answer 12 multiple-choice questions and the winners split the earnings.

You can play “The Q” weekdays at 5:30PM and 8:30PM EST as well as Sundays at 8:30PM EST. They’ve had certain theme nights like a Star Wars trivia day. They offer cash payments to either Paypal or, interestingly enough, Bitcoin. Their leaderboards cover not only overall rankings, but category rankings as well, and you can still answer questions to improve your category rankings even after you’ve been eliminated from a round.

From my experience the questions were relatively easy and it seemed to be something that would be slightly easier to beat than HQ Trivia, even if the prizes were much lower.

Beat the Q

This is a trivia show that is connected to TopBuzz, which is a content hub with trending stories and videos. To play you’ll need to download the TopBuzz app. The game itself is structured in a very similar way to HQ Trivia with a host that offers some cheesey one-liners throughout the game.

You can play “Beat the Q” twice per day at 7:00PM and 10:00PM EST, with a special game on Sundays at 7:00PM with a “huge cash prize.” Please note that to play you need to sign in to TopBuzz after downloading the app through Facebook, email, or other means. The game consists of 12 multiple-choice questions with 2-4 possible answers that must be answered in 10 seconds each.

Winners that answer all 12 questions correctly split the cash prize and you can cash out your earnings after earning at least $10. Inviting friends will earn you an extra life, which lets you stay in the game after a wrong answer. You can use one extra life per game.

SwagIQ

This app is connected to Swagbucks, a website that’s sort of a one-stop shop for all kinds of money-earning internet tasks like paid surveys. Swagbucks never pays money directly but instead gives out their own currency called SB (for Swagbucks) which can be redeemed for gift cards. One of the gift cards you can redeem for is PayPal, so you can still win money, albeit indirectly because the players win SB from SwagIQ instead of cash.

The game consists of 10 multiple choice questions and occurs nightly around 8:00PM EST. Inviting friends doesn’t give you extra lives like in other games, but you will get a 10% match of all SB they earn for life, either from SwagIQ or elsewhere on their website plus a one-time 25 SB bonus. A unique feature of this game is the ability to still earn bonus SB even after you’ve been eliminated, which gives you incentive to stay glued in for the entire game.

Now for a feature that I’m ~not crazy~ about. Rather than have a system of extra lives, like in other games, you must “buy in” by using SB to get back into the game after you’ve been eliminated. Thus you can potentially lose money to play SwagIQ, and it could possibly become addictive like gambling. For this reason it remains one of my least favorites of the trivia apps out there.

Genius

This app features a live show weekdays at 9:30 PM EST that is much shorter than HQ Trivia at only 5 questions instead of the usual 12.

At the time of publication they were “taking a break to search for a new host” so I was unable try this one out.

Joyride

This game sets itself apart from the other games with the ability to video chat with your friends as you’re playing. They offer a live trivia game show multiple times a day with rotating hosts. You can either play as a team or by yourself.

This game is much more social than HQ Trivia and the ability to play with your friends on teams is a cool feature. The game consists of 12 multiple-choice questions and the winners split the prize if they answer all questions correctly. When you invite friends you get “keys” that let you stay in game after wrong answers.

Overall, I thought this app was super fun and the social aspects of the game help it stand out from the competition. The interface was very slick, and the hosts were as annoying as some of the other ones.

QuizBiz

This app made me do a double-take as I asked “they pay out HOW MUCH?” Operated within the Live.me videocasting app and sometimes featuring celebrity hosts, this is operated by a Chinese company that seems to have some deep pockets. The prizes can range from $10,000 to as much as $50,000 per game, although they are normally splits amongst a lot of winners.

The game occurs weekdays at 3:30PM, 7:30PM, and 10:00PM EST. There are 12 questions each and inviting friends will get BOTH you and your friend an “extra chance” that lets you stay in the game after you answer a question wrong. You can actually use extra chances up to THREE times in the game, but you can never use it on the final question.

This game is worth checking out, although the high price-tag of the prizes makes me question if there isn’t something here that’s too good to be true.
