We’ve all heard of Uber and many have been attracted to the flexibility. They are definitely a great option to check out, and you can learn more about becoming an Uber driver-partner or sign up here. It turns out, though, that this isn’t the only option if you are looking to pick up some extra money. Here are some other side gigs in the on-demand economy!
Car-Based Gigs
Uber Eats
Uber Eats is a spinoff app from Uber that connects you with your local restaurants that offer on-demand delivery of food. Uber Eats delivery-partners can use either a car, bike, or scooter for delivery depending on what’s available in their city. You’ll deliver food to customers that have ordered through the Uber Eats app and your schedule is 100% up to you!
To sign up to be a delivery partner you must be at least 19 years old, have a driver’s license, and a vehicle that is from 1999 or newer, among other requirements. What’s great about Uber Eats is they have a rapid sign-up process so you could get on the road very quickly!

Instacart
This is a grocery delivery service that is currently operating in numerous metro areas throughout the United States. They partner with different grocery stores, such as Whole Foods, and some stores have dedicated Instacart check-out lanes.
What’s nice about this service is that you can work either as a driver who picks up orders, or a “Full-Service Shopper” who both drives and delivers. So overall it can be very flexible depending on your needs.

Postmates
Postmates is a company that provides delivery from both restaurants and retail stores. Their delivery people are called “Couriers” and can operate either by car, bike, or scooter depending on your city. I’ve made several blog posts and YouTube videos about Postmates, and I’d recommend checking out the links below for more information. You must be willing to work independently- they don’t provide a phone number to call if you have any issues. That being said, from my personal experience the customers generally tip pretty well and the amount of money you get per order exceeds other companies I’ve worked with.
